As reported a few days ago, the partnership between Velocity and BP looked set to be launched this Thursday. The Velocty Frequent Flyer website has now been updated to include the information about the partnership.
Broadly, the partnership will operate in line with what was already known. By swiping your Velocity card at BP before you pay, you will be able to earn at the following rates:
- 2 points per litre on on every fuel purchase up to 150 litres of fuel and
- 2 points per dollar for in-store purchases up to $100, per transaction*.
There are some exceptions:
- The use of a fuel card, such as a BP Card, will result in there being no points earned
- Points are not earned on tobacco products, gift cards, mobile fuel cards or lottery tickets
The earn rate for fuel is similar to the earn that can be achieved at Woolworths/Caltex by foregoing the discount on the Shopper docket, although in the case of BP, there is no spend requirement at a Supermarket first.
The 2 points per dollar for an in-store purchase is a feature that competitors do not have, although purchasing goods in-store at a service station is not always the friendliest price wise.
When paying with a credit card, of course, you will be able to double dip, as the credit card program will still accrue points into whatever program it is attached to.
Don’t have your card?
If you don’t have your Velocity card
with you when you fill up, either because you don’t have your card with you, or you are not a member of Velocity, then BP can provide you with a temporary card. After swiping the temporary card, you will have 30 days to apply the points to a Velocity account.
This can be an existing account, or indeed, it can be a new account. Once logged into your Velocity account, you simply register the temporary card against your account, and the points will be applied.
For further information, refer to the Velocity website.
