In a deal with BP, Velocity Frequent Flyers will be able to earn points on fuel and retail spend at BP by swiping their Velocity card in store. While the ability to earn points will commence in 2015, Velocity has not, at this point, revealed what the earnings rate will be for petrol or in-store purchases.
The offer will be made available nation wide through over 1400 BP Outlets. In order to support the partnership, BP will be launching a mechanism for customers to participate instore and earn Points through Velocity Frequent Flyer on same day purchases.
The partnership with BP continues the Velocity push to fight more vigourously with the Qantas Frequent Flyer program. It follows the finalisation of the sale of 35% of Velocity Frequent Flyer in October
Velocity Frequent Flyer Chief Executive Officer, Neil Thompson said: “We recognise the importance of rewarding our members on everyday spend and we are thrilled to announce a direct partnership with one of Australia’s leading fuel retailers.
“Today is a major milestone for Velocity Frequent Flyer as we introduce the ability to earn Points on such an important aspect of household expenditure for the first time in the program’s history.
“Our primary focus is to deliver the best rewards to our members and we will continually look at ways to enhance our offering and bring new benefits to our growing membership base,†Mr Thompson said.
While Virgin has touted this as the first direct relationship between Frequent Flyer program and a petrol retailer, there has been a mechanism to earn Qantas points – albeit less directly. At present, Qantas members can earn points at Woolworths Caltex stores via the Everyday Rewards program. In this case, you can elect to earn points by swapping your 4c discount voucher and replacing in with a 2 points per litre earning in Qantas Points.
