HSBC increases sign up bonus to 40,000 Qantas Points

HSBC is currently offering new cardholders of its HSBC Platinum Qantas Credit Card the opportunity to earn 40,000 Qantas Points. This is double the bonus that the card has normally offered, however it does come at the same time as the ongoing benefits of the card have been reduced.

As previously notified, HSBC has changed the earn structure on this card with the introducion of a tiered earning system. Under this system, the previous earning of 1 point per dollar for up to 300,000 points a year has been watered down, so that the 1:1 earning now only applied to the first 2,500 points earned each month.

Other changes that were introduced by the changes include the removal of the 2 Qantas Club passes per year, and the additional point that used to be earned on overseas earning.

After the changes, the current benefits of the card are:

  • 40,000 bonus Qantas Points. Requires an eligible purchase in the first three months of holding the card;
  • $199 annual fee
  • 1 Qantas Frequent Flyer point earned  per dollar spent, up to $2,500 per statement period, 0.5 Qantas Points earned per $ thereafter
  • An insurance package including Extended Warranty, Purchase Protection, & International Travel Insurance
  •  The current offer ends on 31 October 2015
