Last week, Hyatt set off a bit of a status match frenzy, when it started a status match promotion on Twitter. Now, Hilton has begun offering a status match of its own.
The status match was announced on Flyertalk, with the text of the post giving the following instructions:
- We are matching status for
2016. To make sure you’re all set for the year, please submit your
request by January 11, 2016. You’ll enjoy that status through March
- All you need is something that shows your elite tier in another program and an HHonors number.
- Email us at HHonorMyStatus@hilton.com and we’ll help get you started.
Please note it may take a couple of days to process given the
Thanksgiving holiday. We promise to process requests as quickly as
possible and any request submitted prior to January 11, 2016, will be
processed in time to enjoy your new status for the entire year.
What will they match?
This is probably the real question, and it has no clear answer. In the beginning of the Hyatt status match, they appeared to be handing out Hyatt Diamond like candy, until they eventually moved to only offering that to Starwood Platinum members. Elite members of Hilton, Marriott and IHG were only being bumped to Hyatt Platinum.
Without any specific guidelines published from Hilton at this point, one can only assume any true
top-tier status will
be matched to Hilton HHonors Diamond. Â For anyone on a competing mid-tier status, a match to Hilton HHonors Gold is probably more likely.
