Typically, purchasing Hilton HHonors points costs $US10.00 for 1000 points, or 1 US cent per point. With the bonus, that $10.00 will get you 2000 points, or 0.5 US cents per point. At the current exchange rate, about 0.63 Australian cents per point.
The cost of the maximum 80,000 points (+ 80,000 bonus points) comes in at $US800, which is a little over $1000 in Australian currency.
As usual with these offers, it is necessary to look at what could be done with the points to determine if it makes sense. The 100% offer is quite a good offer compared to previous offers, so there may be some value in takling up the offer.
There are some award redemptions around that could make obtaining points worthwhile. It is best to do your sums on this, to compare what may be done with an award redemption versus what could be achieved simply by paying cash.
Hilton HHonors points can be transferred to Qantas, but the exchange rate is not that favourable. 10,000 Hilton HHonors points transfers as 1,500 Qantas Points. So, the 1,000 spend could get you 24,000 Qantas points.
This is probably not the best use of points.
Overall, it is best to only use these types of promotions if there is an immediate need for the points. As always, though, you should consider your own potential use of the points.
See the Hilton Purchase Points page for details.
