Hilton have publishes tables reflecting that some of the hotels are moving Award categories from July 9, 2014. Some hotels have moved up a category, while others have moved down a category. In our part of the world, there are a couple of hotels that have moved down a category.
One hotel in Australia, Hilton Surfers Paradise, and the Fiji Beach Resort, have both decreases from a Category 8 hotel to Category 7. Category 8 required between 40,000 and 70,000 points to get an award night. Under category 7, this reduces to 30,000 – 60,000 points. While there is a substantial overlap in the points required, there will hopefully be a reduction of 10,000 points or so for an award night at these two hotels.
There is also a table for hotels that have increased in categories. These hotels all appear to be located in the U.S.
