Qantas and Hoyts have launched a new partnership allowing Qantas Frequent Flyers to earn and redeem points at the cinema.
Earning Points at Hoyts
On the earning side, the program hooks into the Hoyts Rewards program. In order to earn Qantas Points at Hoyts, you will need to be a member of the Hoyts Rewards program.
Hoyts Rewards come in two levels, and this will affect you points eaning in the program. Members of the free Hoyts Rewards bronze level can earn at 1 Qantas Point per dollar spent. Alternatively, you can pay $13 for Silver membership, which amps up the earning to 2 points per dollar.

Using Qantas Points at Hoyts
Qantas Frequent Flyers are able to use their points at Hoyts. The redemption rate is pretty much fixed at a rate of 0.5 cents per point.
Examples of redemptions include the ability to pay for Hoyts Rewards, or to receive a discount on movie tickets.
In the case of Hoyts Rewards Silver membership, you can use 2,600 Qantas Points to pay for the $13 membership fee.
If you want a discount on movie tickets, then 4,000 Qantas Points will get you a $20 discount.
Given the value of other redemption rates, a rate of 0.5 cents per points is probably on the lower end of redemption rates. Therefore, while taking advantage of the earn is possibly worthwhile, the use of points at Hoyts is probably not a terribly good use of points.
