Tucked away in the announcements of the QantasPoints hub, and online mall, was a brief mention that you could now earn points on the purchase of digital gift cards at the Qantas Points website. The QantasPoints website is currently offering 2 Qantas points per dollar on purchases of digital gift cards for Myer, David Jones, Priceline, ITunes, Priceline and JB HiFi.
The cards are digital giftcards, so they are delivered to you by email. According to the instructions supplied, you print off the voucher, and present it in-store to use.
There are a couple of interesting things that are of note to the point collector. Firstly, unlike some other online giftcards, there appears to be no processing fee (as fulfilment is via email rather than by mailing a card out).
Secondly, online payments for the card is done by Visa, Mastercard or American Express credit cards. This allows you to ‘double-dip’, in that you should also earn the appropriate points in the credit card scheme of your choice. For example, if you were to purchase the cards on a Woolworths Qantas Card, you would get an additional point for the card spend. Overall, then, you would get three points per dollar spent on the gift cards.
This provides another way of collecting additional points through what for many people would be normal expenditure. A little bit of organization with your spend in the various stores could yield additional Qantas Points. While this may never be a lot of points, as I have written before, every little bit helps.
